Be part of the action at the SomerVille Spring Festival!
Sat 17th Sept to Sun
18th Sept
How can I contribute? There are five things you can do to help make the festival
a huge success.
1) Sell
tickets
Set yourself the goal of selling 10 tickets. If we all do this we will reach our
1000 ticket goal! Tickets can be purchased over the web at
http://www.somervilleecovillage.com.au/festival
and early bird rates apply until 31st August. (We will be advising you soon as
to other ways of selling tickets!)
2)
Spread the word
Either download and printout the poster at
http://www.somervilleecovillage.com.au/festival or ring Paul (9572 1339) or
Gina (9384 8972) to get hold of some printed posters. Pin them up at work, your
favourite hangouts, your local shops or take them to any club meetings you may
attend. (Fliers will also become available soon!)
3) Nominate
Nominate some stallholders or a favourite speaker who you would like to see at
the festival. Just email to
festival@sev.net.au names and a contact and we will follow it through.
4) Volunteer
Join the volunteer brigade by contacting Chris. Volunteers are entitled to a free ticket after
putting in 4 hours of sweat. Help is needed during the following times:
1st/2nd/3rd Sept for mailing out tickets
15th/16th Sept for setting up the venue
17th/18th Sept for running the festival
18th/19th Sept for cleaning up.
Also let us know if you are willing to introduce an act or two as part of the MC
line-up.
5) Order a
SomerVille
T-shirt
Order a SomerVille T-shirt and make yourself identifiable as a Somervillian, and
available to share your story with newcomers. Regardless of how big, or small,
or long, or short, your involvement may be, hearing real stories from actual
community members speaks mountains. Email Sarah at________ for details.
Safe food for everyone
Frank Ash
I am inviting
expressions of interest from anyone wishing to provide a combined effort of
consumers wanting safe food and growers who produce safe food. My wife and I
created and operated the Safe Food Consumers Association which had hundreds of
members but when we took on running a SAFA Food Shop in Inglewood as well as our
farm near Chidlow we could not organise regular meetings so have just kept the
SAFA newsletter going.
With the
increasing concern and demand for organic and other safe food there lies a
challenge and a hope for more to participate.
While unable to
do much more ourselves we believe it would be beneficial to have a combined
effort to support consumers and growers by assisting the Safe Food Consumers
Association and SAFA - Safer Australian Food Accreditation and other facilities
that already exist and did operate successfully however now only need some
effort to be reactivated.
We belong to or
have links with Organic Growers and have started a combined Safe Food Consumers
Association in Mundaring which still operates and provides links to Organic
Growers, Permaculture, Biodynamic Growers, and the City Farm Organic Growers
Market (on each Saturday) as well as other worthy causes including our own
CARESAFE, CARE spelling out Community Action Revitalising Everything for a SAFE
- Safer Australia For Everyone.
Of course our
emphasis is on being safe through care of each other - a worth while effort for
others to help revitalise.

Coming
Events
SomerVille Spring Festival
Sat 17th Sept to Sun
18th Sept
The SomerVille Spring Festival is an annual event where we celebrate our
achievements, enjoy our community, share our passion, educate and inspire, and
have heaps of fun.
This year’s festival has grown so big it has become a two day event to be held
over the weekend of 17th and 18th September.
Saturday is the main festival day, starting at
10am
and continuing well into the night. Sunday will have ongoing workshops, tours
and an abundance of family activities. There are campsites available for
those wishing to stay for the whole festival. Sunday breakfast will be available
but please note that at present showers are not provided.
The 2005 program will be a feast for your senses. A diverse range of music will
play throughout the day and into the night. The circus will not only entertain
but also encourage you to join in through workshops. You will fill your eyes
with colour from the kites painting the sky, and fill your tummies from all the
scrumptious food on offer.
The Spirit of the weekend will be established by the opening indigenous
performance and you will have the wonderful opportunity to (re)connect with the
land with aboriginal guided bush tours and campfire dreaming. You can continue
your education from the talks, tours and many eco-related stalls or just indulge
yourself in the health and healing sanctuary.
And
for all the children, whether by age or inclination, the festival will present a
smorgasbord of activities and fun-filled events. This is a family-orientated
event, and for people of all ages the festival will really be an extraordinary
experience.
