The Orchard Working
Bee
Christophe
Although I did not attend, it was reported that a productive
morning was achieved in the orchard on Thursday 28th December 2004, when 12
people pruned, mulched, picked up fallen fruit and generally tidied up, work was
followed by a lovely bring and share breakfast.

This was
followed up by another orchard working bee on the afternoon of Saturday January
8th 2005, this I did attend and about 9 of us got stuck into it and pruned, and
generally tidied up. This was followed up by a wonderful dinner and a swim at
Lake Leschenaultia. I even camped overnight on the property and woke to the
sounds of the birds. Looking forward to living in SomerVille .

Although a lot
a work was done and the orchard is noticeably looking much better with all
root-stock saplings and a lot of the wire-netting removed, it seems that a
little bit more work may need to be done, and there is still a number of dead
branches on some of the trees, so stay tuned, as another Orchard Working Bee may
be on the cards.
New Years Eve on
SomerVille
Di
SomerVille was a
superb alternative to getting snarled up in city celebrations. About a dozen
gathered for dining under the stars, with glassware and cutlery gleaming on a
white cloth. Robert and the magnificent Metters brought forth a succulent roast
of beef, while our customary bring-and-share principle generated a range of
other delicious dishes. There was music and dancing, a lot of fun for everyone
christening Mechtild’s SomerVille -based Pictionary game (ever thought how you
might try to visually represent ‘spirituality’?), then poppers, champers and
sparklers as 2004 became 2005. The best came next, with guest German Woofer
Georg turning on a musical performance on his recorder, with drum, didgeridoo
and Carol’s vocal accompaniment weaving some glorious aural magic. The final
delight for the night was a display of poi artistry by Jo, etching figures of
flames against an indigo sky. No-one who was there wanted to be anywhere else.
