Rezoning Status
In April 2004, The
Hon Alannah MacTiernan formally advised us that
she is willing to allow the rezoning amendment relating to SomerVille to be
advertised for public comment. The 42-day advertising
period finished in September 2005 with 36
submissions received.
The Shire of Mundaring
voted in favour of the proposal in March 2006 and the proposal moved on to the
Western
Australian Planning Commission.
The Hon Alannah MacTiernan
advised us in February 2007 that she will allow the rezoning amendment for
SomerVille Ecovillage™. This was finally
published in the Government Gazette on the 14th of August 2007.
We now proceed with the Local
Subdivision Infrastructure Plan (LSIP) and Subdivision with the Shire of
Mundaring. We hope that these will be approved by the last quarter of 2007.
It is interesting that the
general perception overseas is because we have so much land “we can do
anything we like”. This is far from the reality of life here in Australia.
The statutory process that we are required to move through is one of the
most complex and arduous anywhere in the world. It took nearly three years
to obtain approval from the
Mundaring Shire and
nearly four years from the State Government.
